1977 - Released “Me and Louie on the Road”. Achieved sales in
excess of 100,000 copies.
1978 – With his family joined the Rick
and Thel Show for 6 months touring around Australia.
1979 – Released his second album 'Jet
Set Country' which included two songs written by Lee, including
'Matilda, Queen Of The Tar', a tribute to "Waltzing Matilda", a
big Ford Louisville Truck powered by a Canberra Jet Engine which
raced around the nation's showgrounds where the Kernaghan’s
performed, with its big jet engine roaring and flames shooting
out of the exhaust. That same year "Waltzing Matilda" broke the
world land speed record for a truck at
Ray’s debut album "Me and Louie on the Road" goes Gold and then
Platinum in September,
1980 – Touring promoting his album.
Formed “Kernaghan Country Records Pty Limited” to promote his
own records. First artist to undertake this type of promotion.
1981 – Inducted into the Hands of Fame. Ray’s "Jet Set Country"
album goes platinum.
1982 - Ray bought "Waltzing Matilda", and in the truck, Ray, and
the younger Kernaghan’s as part of a group called the Strangers
travelled around Australia for nine months in the Ray Kernaghan
Cavalcade of Stars Show which also included a beauty queen,
special guests and a computerised driverless car.
1985 - Records
first father and son country album "Family Tradition”, featuring
the duets "It Never Rains it Pours" and "Family Tradition".
1995 - South Australian Country Music Festival Awards- Inducted
into the Hall of Fame.
2015 – Elevated onto the Roll of Renown.
