Wayne HORSBURGH (1989)
1955 – Born on the 11th of June and raised in the
Victorian countryside near Benalla, Wayne Horsburgh started
singing at a young age, forming his own dance band at age 11.
Some of his early musical influences were Frank Ifield and Slim
Whitman, hence the love for yodelling - a crowd pleaser at his
1976 - Entered a talent quest in Albury which he won. This lead
to Wayne appearing on a
television program hosted by Wally McQuaker.
1978 - Entered the CCMA Talent quest during the Tamworth
Festival and won Best Yodel and Best Male Vocal. Toured with
1979 - Moved to Sydney
to further his career. Dorothy Barry (of the Barry Sisters)
asked Maurie Porter to book him onto a number of shows and
1984 - Mo Awards for Male Country Vocal Performer. Went to the USA for a 5 week
1987 - Entertained on a number of cruise liners out of Sydney. Applied to the Sitmar Lines and was
given the job to entertain on an Alaskan cruise. This led to a 3
month contract entertaining on10 day cruises around the
1989 - Mo Awards for Country Performer of the Year.
1989 - His big break in the
came when he was invited to perform at
Hodag Country Festival,
sharing the stage with country music stars Emmylou Harris, The
Oak Ridge Boys, Freddy Fender and Ricky Van Shelton to a crowd
of 30,000. This was the first of 9 appearances at this festival.
Started to spend six months living
and working in America.
1990 - Mo Awards for Country Performer of the Year.
1991 - Mo Awards for Male Country Vocal Performer.
1991 - Wayne represented Australia at the
'International Fan Fair',
where he performed on the grandstand stage. He then had his own
each year until 2003 signing autographs for the fans alongside
many of the legends of American Country Music.
1996 - Mo Awards for Male Country Vocal Performer.
1997 – Moved to Branson, Missouri (U.S.A) from where he toured America.
1998 - Wayne first represented Australia at the
"Silver Dollar City",
in Branson, along with 500 other International entertainers. He
has returned for this huge festival nearly every year since
then, flying the Aussie flag.

1999 - Wayne has appeared at many
County Fairs in
over the years.
2002 – Appeared on the
Hodag Country Festival
Wisconsin, on July 11th. Appearing with
that night, were Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw, while also
appearing over the weekend were Toby Keith, Neal McCoy,
Alabama, Leroy Van Dyke and many others

2006 – In April during the

2010 - Decides to cease his six month
a year of living and working in America to live
and work full time in
2012 – April. Inducted into
Axemans Wall of Fame in Latrobe, alongside fellow artists Jean
Stafford, Phil Emmanuel and Wayne Horsburgh.
2013 – Elevated to the Roll of
Renown. MO Awards - Slim Dusty Country Act of the Year.
