1996 – Golden Guitar for Male Vocalist of the Year with “End of the Road”.

1997 - CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Entertainer of the Year.

1998 – Golden Guitar for Album of the Year with “True Believer”, Male Vocalist of the Year and Video Track of the Year with “Little Things”.  Mo Award for John Laws Male Country Performer. ACE Award for Country Male Performer. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Entertainer of the Year.

2001 - People’s Choice Award for Best Male Vocal. People’s Choice Awards – Best Heritage Song with “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like That Anymore”.

2003 – Golden Guitars for APRA Song of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year with “Born to Survive”, Vocal Collaboration of the Year (with Paul Kelly) with “Wish I Was a Train”. Mo Award for Male Country Performer of the Year. People’s Choice Award for Best Male Vocal.

2004 – Mo Award for Male Country Performer. People’s Choice Award for Best Male Vocal. Artist of the Year at the 10th Deadly Awards.

2005 - ACE Award for Country Male Artist

2006 – Golden Guitars for APRA Song of the Year (with Paul Kelly) for “Lonesome but Free”, Male Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year (with Jimmy Barnes) with “Bird on a Wire”.  ACE Award for Country Male Performer. Queensland Gold Medallion Awards –Touring Artist of the Year. ARIA Award for Best Country Album with “Brighter Day”. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Entertainer of the Year.

2007 - People’s Choice Award for Best Male Vocal. ACE Award for Country Male Performer. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Entertainer of the Year.

2008 – Golden Guitar for Male Artist of the Year with “Everything’s Going to be Alright”. Mo Award for Slim Dusty Male Country Vocal Performer. ACE Award for Country Male Performer. Inducted into the South Australian Country Music Festival Awards Hall of Fame. NSW Gold Medallion Awards – Male Vocalist of the Year.

2009 - ACE Award for Country Male Performer. NSW Gold Medallion Awards – Male Vocalist of the Year. ARIA Award for Best Country Album with “I Love this Place”.

2010 – People’s Choice Award for Best Male Vocal. Queensland Country Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year with the McClymonts. Victorian and National Country Music Awards Male Vocalist and Duet Award with The McClymonts.

2011 - Golden Guitar for Best Heritage Song "Sacred Bones", co-written with Luke Austen.

2013 – Golden Guitars for Best Album, Male Artist, APRA Song of the Year and Single of the Year for “Country Is”.

2015 – Golden Guitar for Vocal Collaboration of the Year with Dean Perrett for “My Country My Land”.

2016 - Golden Guitar for Single of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year and APRA AMCOS Song of the Year for "Freedom Road" as well as Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year.
