Merelyn & David

Carter & Carter

David was born in Melbourne, Victoria, and Merelyn in Mt Barker, South Australia.

Both had established musical careers- David into hard rock and Merelyn into fluffy gospel pop when they met. They started writing contemporary country music together and ten years into their careers they formed Carter & Carter. Their career highlights are listed below.

2000 - Debut chart single “You Were There”

2001 – January. Gold Guitar Awards top 10 in Group/Duo. TSA Song of the Year with “A Little Place Called Love”. TSA Gospel Song of the Year with “A Little Place Called Love”

February. Victorian Country Music Awards. Victorian Album of the Year with “Dance The Night Away”. Victorian Female Vocalist of the Year.

October. Australian Independent Country Music Awards. Independent Artists of the Year. Album of the Year with “Dance The Night Away”.

2002 – January. Golden Guitar Awards Top 5 Finalist for Vocal Group/Duo and New Talent. ACLMA People’s Choice Awards – Best Australian Country Song with “A Little Place Called Love” and Best Country Album with “Dance the Night Away”. TIARA Award for Group/duo. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Independent Entertainer of the Year.

February. Victorian Country Music Awards- Victorian Entertainers of the Year.

5EFM Australian Country Showcase- Album of the Year with “Dance the Night Away”. Song of the Year with “A Little Place Called Love”.

October. Australian Independent Country Music Awards. APRA/AMCOS Independent Music Single of the Year with “Easy Making Love”. Independent Artist of the Year for the 2nd consecutive year).

2003 – January. Gold Guitar Awards. Winner Vocal Group/Duo with Candles and Kisses”. TSA Songwriters Salute Song Of the Year with “Candlelight and Kisses”. TSA Songwriters Salute Contemporary Country Song of the Year with “Candlelight and Kisses”. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Independent Entertainer of the Year.

February. Victorian Country Music Awards. Victorian Entertainers of the Year (2nd consecutive year). Victorian Female Vocalist of the Year.

September. CMAA Achiever Awards. Independent Entertainers of the Year (two years running).

October. Telstra Country Wide Southern Stars - 7th Aust. Independent Country Music Awards . APRA/AMCOS Independent CM Single of the Year with “Lead Me Home”
Australian Independent Album of the Year with “Every Minute”

November. Musicoz Award - Gospel Winner with “Lead Me Home”. Australian Gospel Songwriting Award with “Lead Me Home”.

2004 – January. ACMLA People’s Choice Award for Best Country Song with “Lead Me Home”.

February, Victorian Country Music Awards - Victorian Album of the Year with “Every Minute”. Victorian Entertainers of the Year (3rd year in a row).

May. APRA Award – for Most Played Country Song  with “Lead me Home”.

Release of the Acoustic Gospel album, Leap Before You Look

September. CMAA Australian Country Music Achiever Awards – Independent Entertainer of the Year.

2006 – January. Hands of Fame Inductees. TSA Song Salute Award - Gospel Song of the Year with “God Didn't Make Mistakes”. ACMLA People’s Choice Award - Best Country Song with “God Didn't Make Mistakes”.

February. Victorian & National CM Awards - Best Group/Duo - National & Best Group/Duo – Victorian. The single Ride was the only song released in 2006.

2007 – January. TIARA – Country Duo of the Year. People’s Choice Career Recognition Award

October. 11th Southern Stars Aust. Independent Country Music Awards. Independent Artist of the Year. Album Of The Year with “Leap Before you Look”. Group/Duo Of The Year with “Run Away”.

2008 – January, TSA Song Salute Award - Gospel Song of the Year with “When God Takes a Photograph” - co-written with Brendon Walmsley - Contemporary Song of the Year with “The Best Things in Life Are Free”.
