Zeta BURNS (2015)

Zeta Burns

1928 – Born Zeta Brose in Ayr North Queensland on January 23rd.

Zeta became interested in music as a child and was influenced by Dorothy Juniper.  Favourite artists were Tex Morton and June Holms.

1940’s – Toured with the Gene Leroy 4QR Concert Party and became a regular artist on Gene’s live   radio programme, “The Town Hall Midday Show”

1942 – Age 14, Zeta meets Tex Morton in Cairns.

1943 – Age 15, moves to Brisbane and later to Toowoomba where she buys her first guitar from Cliff Tutin.

1945 - 48 - Performs in and around Toowoomba.  She is billed as “Queensland yodelling Cowgirl.”

1946 – Meets Shirley Thoms.

1947 – Meets Buddy Williams.

1948 – Zeta joins Eric Turin (of “Sundowners” fame) and went on her first travelling show with the Lester Follies.  It is  also the first tour for Gordon Parsons.

1949 – Marries and career starts to take a back seat.

Over the next few years Zeta performed on stage with many top artists of the time. Dusty Rankin, Monty Fayne,        Ron Peters, Joan Ridgeway – plus others

1952 – Zeta dropped out of entertaining, which took up all of her time until…

1979 – She brushed off the cobwebs and started to move around various club functions.

1980 – Records an EP.

1981 – Records a single, which was to unveil the grave of June Holms.  Later that year she appeared on an LP coupled with June Holms.

1982 – Guest artist at Dubbo’s Easter Country Festival the following Easter (1983) guest artist at Poley Everett’s Easter Festival, Gloucester.  Records a single in June and again in August.

1985 – Started touring with Ian Hands.

Released six records with “Queensland Country Smile Label”.

2015 – Inducted into the Hands of Fame. Released “The Passing Years”
